VOLUNTEERING
.
WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING?
It has always been in
people's nature to help. Volunteering is certainly not new and
it's essence has never changed.
There is a growing recognition of
volunteering and its value to the community.
VOLUNTEERING CONTAINS THREE
ELEMENTS :
it is done by choice -
of one's own free will
it is done without
payment
it is to the benefit of
the community
VOLUNTEERING SHOULD BE
A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
VOLUNTEERING TAKES TWO
FORMS: Informal (outside of organisations)
part of our community
life carries risks such as over-involvement, inappropriate
involvement and potential for emotional and physical harm
Formal (within an
organisation) offers the benefit of appropriate insurance
cover, support, training, guidance and recognition
The Golden Retriever Club
of SA Inc offers the benefit of formal volunteering
AROUND ONE IN FOUR
AUSTRALIANS ARE CURRENTLY VOLUNTEERING.
It is expected our Active
volunteers would give a commitment of
at least 1 hour per fortnight of their
time to
visit a Residential Aged Care Home in their local area.
This commitment would be on
a regular appointment time basis.
Once a routine is established,
residents really look forward to that special time
they spend with you and
your dog and are disappointed and anxious if you do not keep that
appointment. (Of course, changes can be made to that time with communication to
the Home)
Your commitment also is to
always ensure your CARING CANINE COMPANION
is suitable for the visit - clean, well
groomed and healthy.
We provide support and training sessions as appropriate.
Our co-ordinator is available on
Freecall 1800 077 722 (between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm weekdays)
for support or information as required by you.
