Our first Team Visit took place recently, and following is the report from Nan:

Somerton Masonic Village:

After our assessment day the previous week, I rang Pat and Jenny to confirm arrangements.  Yes, Jan and Pat would bring their Goldens, Jazz and  Ben; and Jenny would bring Doti, the Greyhound, but not Suni as she was on medication which had made her incontinent - I really couldn't see that this would be a problem as she would have fitted in beautifully with any dementia group!

Tuesday, the day before the visit I phoned the home and they were very welcoming and said there would be "about 50 in a circle in a large room".

At this number I freaked out, three people, four dogs and 50 oldies  =  one nightmare!!

Wednesday arrived and the four of us with two goldens, two borders and one greyhound front up to a small cosy room with about 20+ residents in it at one time.   I guess we would have had about 40 pass through during the hour we were there.   There also was a large number of staff as well as numerous volunteers helping out.

Our dogs were a big hit and we were all on our best best behaviour   -  and we left safe in the knowledge that there was not one single crumb of food scraps on the floor anywhere.

As a reward we took the dogs to the local dog park for a free run  -  and they were very very relieved to be there, believe me!!!

Many thanks Ben, Jazz, Doti, Dayna and Ella for making our first team visit a very successful venture.
