Nan Sharp and Border
Collies Dayna and Ella
experienced the sadness of losing a special friend
at Oxford Aged Care, Hove. Nan decided she would like to attend the
funeral with her two CCC's. This is her report:
I got to the church
5 minutes before starting time, and sat in the back row. Ella
promptly made herself comfortable under me with her head on my feet and
went to sleep. Dayna sat half in and half out of the aisle, with the
sun shining on her through the window.
They received surprised and
admiring smiles and pats as people left the church. The general
comment was "These were the dogs that visited Dulcie," so she obviously
must have talked about them to her friends and relatives. It was
nice to hear that the picture of Dulcie with Ella on the bed was a
bookmark in her Bible. That certainly says it all.

Bronson's 4th
birthday
was celebrated by the residents at St Theresa's Nursing Home with
the staff organising a cake for them and
a meat loaf for Bronson. Balloons, streamers, party hats and a Happy
Birthday song completed the celebrations.
Bronson paid a visit
to the room of his very special friend John. He likes the tricks
Bronson does like barking a count of fingers and turning the light switch
on and off. John was born in Russia and has severe arthritis and
little vision. He sent a copy of this photo to his relatives in
Lithuania where it appeared in their local newspaper. Bronson barks
"hello" when he arrives and "goodbye" when he
leaves.
PS : Sadly,
John has recently passed away and Bronson can't understand why his friend
is no longer in his room. But he does have many other special
friends to visit.

Carolyn's Special
Moment
At Ingle Farm Helping Hand Aged Care, this particular
resident who is blind always stays clear of us when Lucy and I enter
the room. After a lot of attempts to get her to touch Lucy she
finally, one day, came into the room where I was visiting and sat
down. Lucy sensed what was happening and was so calm. This
resident had never touched a dog before, she had told me, but she began to
stroke Lucy with my hand over hers, and she felt her ears. I was so
lucky to share this special moment with one who is scared of
dogs.
It is also wonderful
to see Lucy at work in her favourite Lounge in the low care Dementia area
at Ridgehaven - so many happy faces waiting for their turn to greet
her. Even the lady who puts her face in the newspaper or leaves the
room when we come in has recently had a couple of pats and commented "She
has a pretty little face."
