Fun days are an important part of the Golden Retriever Club's calendar. They provide an important opportunity for the dogs to meet each other and socialise freely, while their families enjoy the company of like-minded folk. Golden owners generally love to talk about their dogs, and are happy to share their experiences and knowledge. Anyone who is interested in or owns a Golden Retriever is invited to participate in the activities of the day. Many friendships, both canine and human, begin through club activities such as fun days.
While the frequency varies from year to year, the Club endeavours to hold about six fun days each year. Beach outings are always a favourite, as our dogs love nothing more than a romp in the water with their friends, while other events focus on various aspects of life with a Golden Retriever. This might be a particular sport or activity, such as obedience, retrieving or conformation showing, all conducted in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. Information sessions on topics such as grooming or first aid, often with hands-on participation, also feature in the program. Whatever the activity, there is always off-leash time for the dogs.
Fun days are also an ideal opportunity for people who are interested in adding a Golden to their family to learn more about the breed, and to see first hand the best aspects of the Golden's temperament and behaviour when in the company of others.

We all understand the importance of obedience training for a happy, well-adjusted dog. But have you considered obedience trialling as a sport you can share with your Golden?
GRCSA member Penny MacLaren is a successful trialler; she and Inca are now competing in the challenging Utility Class, but getting started may not be as hard as you think. Join us at this Fun Day in the Park, when Penny will tell us all about obedience trialling and share some training tips to help get you going in this rewarding pastime.
Afterwards, we'll share a barbecue lunch – we'll provide the sausages and condiments, sweets and treats; bring along whatever else you might need, including camp chairs, picnic rugs, water bowls etc.
Please note, tethering stakes cannot be used at this site. Dogs must be on lead during the workshop but there will be plenty of time for off-lead play afterwards.
In case of poor weather, plans may have to be changed. If in doubt, check
our FaceBook page or send a text to 0403159990 on the morning.
